Did you know there are more than a thousand date varieties? So it’s almost impossible to not find your favorite ones.
One of our employees actually thought for years that she doesn’t like the taste of dates - until she started to work with Jurassic Fruit. She discovered our wide selection of organic dates, some of which would soon become her favourites
The taste of a date is always sweet, but differs greatly from one variety to another:

• The Deglet date - the most popular in Europe - has a finely sweet, slightly nutty flavour.
• The Medjool date is renowned for being creamy and sweet like chestnut cream.
• The Sukkari date, less well known but incredibly delicious, is reminiscent of an almond biscuit...

How to eat dates

You can have fresh dates with the most creamy texture, even so soft you can just spread it on a raw bread or cake. But there are also really dry dates, chewy and firm, perfect to take with you on a trip - and then there are the soft dates in between.
Some varieties are perfect as a snack, some are more easy to blend and thus great for your vegan pastries and smoothies with exotic fruit.
Dates are also the perfect sweetener for your raw cake created with some delicious nuts and dried fruits, or as the sweet ingredient for your homemade vegan almond or oat milk!

How healthy are fresh dates

Dates are a popular part of healthy, natural diets. They are an excellent substitute for calorie-laden desserts for those who want to lose weight.
The main health benefits of dates are as follows:

• At just 29 kCal per piece, dates provide you with plenty of nutrients while preventing cravings for artificial sweets!
• They are rich in carbohydrates and fibre, making you feel full. Studies have shown their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunostimulant potential.

How our dates are grown and dried

To provide you with the best quality dates Jurassic Fruit carefully chooses the most trustworthy producers to import dates from. They need to share our vision of sustainable agriculture and that’s why we only offer organic dates or dates of comparable quality!

This is why our dates are ethically grown by trusted farmers from several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Israel and Iran.
What counts for us is to

• find the best varieties for you (did you know that no country produces more delicious Deglet than Algeria and Tunisia?) in organic quality or guaranteed pesticide-free
• work with nice farmers who share our values and want to contribute to a better world!

Our Dates are completely natural and do not dry other than on the plant.

The dates on the outside of the bunch dry first because of the hot desert wind, the dates inside the bunches remain soft for longer.

The bunches are harvested whole and the dates are sorted according to their degree of drying.

There are several maturities for dates:

• Immature, yellow date: at this stage it can be eaten crunchy like an apple and has a slightly astringent and relatively mild sweet taste
• Fresh, juicy date: it is brown, juicy and melting like a perfectly ripe fig or persimmon. At this stage, it is fragile and must be stored in the freezer.
• Soft date: it has ripened on the plant and is harvested tender, so it is soft and melt-in-the-mouth. This is what Jurassic Fruit calls a ‘soft’ date.
• Ripe date: the date is firm, no longer juicy but not hard
• Dry date: These dates are chewy and rather hard like caramel
