Taste Profile

The cacao pod pulp is slightly sweet, tangy, and deeply tropical, with notes of lychee, citrus, and pineapple alongside a refreshing almost effervescent quality. The raw cacao bean beneath is intensely bitter, earthy, and complex. Together, they create two completely contrasting flavour experiences within a single pod. Best enjoyed chilled.

Origin & Sourcing

Where It Begins

The Cocoa Pod grows within the tropical cacao belt of West Africa and South America, where cacao trees (Theobroma cacao) thrive in hot, humid climates close to the equator. The pods develop directly from the trunk and major branches of the tree and are traditionally harvested by hand during the main fruiting seasons each year. Varieties include Criollo, Forastero, and Trinitario.

How It's Grown

Grown without synthetic chemicals or pesticides. Sourced from small scale producers who harvest each pod only once fully ripe and ready. The fruits are carefully picked at peak maturity for maximum flavour and freshness. Cacao pods do not continue ripening after harvest.

How It Reaches You

Air shipped to preserve maximum freshness, as fresh cacao pods are highly perishable. Refrigerate immediately upon arrival and enjoy within approximately 4-5 days for the best flavour and quality.

Description

Cocoa pod: the original cacao experience

This is the tropical fruit chocolate begins with, long before roasting, grinding, conching or sugar.

Crack open the hard ridged shell and you’ll find 20 to 60 cacao beans wrapped in soft white pulp. The pulp is juicy, sweet-tangy and deeply tropical, with notes of lychee, citrus and pineapple. The beans underneath are a completely different story: bitter, earthy and intense, carrying the raw foundation of chocolate before any processing begins.

Eat the fresh pulp straight from the pod, then gently suck or nibble the beans if you’re curious about cacao in its wildest form. You can also blend the pulp and beans into smoothies, add it to fruit bowls, or dry and roast them at home for a deeper cacao flavor.

Unprocessed, unsweetened and straight from the tropics, this is chocolate at its origin. A fruit unlike anything else, and one every chocolate lover should try at least once.

    cocoa pod

Arrived fresh and in excellent condition.

Fruit pulp with an interesting flavor.

Beans less bitter than feared, taste more “earthy”.

    Cocoa fruit

The fruit was exactly as pictured in very good condition and a beautiful dark red color, very attractive. It tasted very good and was surprisingly fruity, something completely different. We all tolerated them very well. It arrived on Thursday and was immediately opened. It remained open with cling film and kept in the refrigerator all the time. As a result, the fruit remained fresh and visually unchanged until it was used up on Sunday evening. Very good! I'd love to go back!

    Great product, great customer support!

The first delivery arrived quickly and easily. Unfortunately, the fruits were overripe, you can't blame anyone for that. It's just a natural product. I still wrote to customer service and immediately received a very nice and helpful answer. The new delivery was immediately arranged for FREE - I didn't expect that at all! I was even reimbursed for delivery costs for the first delivery! The company deserves 5 stars for that alone. My beans arrived super fast again and were perfect this time! Thank you so much! Always happy to come back and would be happy to recommend you!

    Good fruit

Yes, the price is relatively high but that way you get a fruit in good condition that you hardly get otherwise.
