For many travelers, discovering Longkong is a revelation. Despite being one of the most appreciated fruits in Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, it remains largely unknown outside Southeast Asia.

At first glance, the fruit looks modest. Small, round, and pale yellow with dark spots, it doesn't have the dramatic appearance of a dragon fruit or rambutan. But beneath the skin lies a fruit that many locals actively seek out during the short harvest season.

Longkong belongs to the same family as langsat and duku, two closely related fruits that have been cultivated across the region for centuries. Among them, Longkong is often considered the most refined. The fruits typically contain little or no sticky latex, fewer seeds, and a higher proportion of edible flesh.

Part of its appeal lies in its balance. While many tropical fruits focus on sweetness alone, Longkong combines sweetness with a gentle citrus freshness that keeps each segment light and refreshing. It's the kind of fruit that's easy to keep eating, one piece after another.
